The Power of Believing

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

LIFE is a zigzag road which ends up at the top of a mountain. You got to turn right, turn left, and then turn right again while the engine of your car chases its frenetic breathing because of the STEEP road - one MISTAKE, then you’ll see your corpse crushed in your totally wrecked automobile.

At some point of your life, you will wake up inside a tunnel seeing only one POINT OF LIGHT.

Sometimes you’ll realize that you’re on a road that seems to have NO END.

Because the DARKNESS is 99% of what you see and the point of light is only 1%, it’s very hard to look at it. Because you don’t see the DESTINATION and all you see is a road, it’s very hard to look at it. Because it’s very hard to look at those, it’s very hard to have HOPE.

Life will become PERILOUS when hope turns into hatred and anger. The number of victims is growing day by day. Some say “Better KILL myself than be in this horrible life.”

What’s the SECRET to survive? NEVER STOP BELIEVING.

Until you see a point of light, never stop running for no matter how SMALL that light is, you WILL reach it. Look at the light instead of the darkness, and you will see how HOPE does its job.

Until you see a road, never stop running for no matter how FAR your destination is, you WILL reach it. Always think about the JOY your destination will bring you; indeed, you will endure the PAIN brought by the road.

It reminds me of a line from the book The Little Prince: "What makes the desert beautiful," says the little prince "is that somewhere it hides a well."

We, Filipino people, face a pile of PROBLEMS. They are problems that are very hard to solve, for it's very difficult to determine where to START. Do we need to have a new LEADER? new CONSTITUTION? new LAWS? However difficult we think about it, it is still very complex to have an ANSWER. Nevertheless, we should never stop believing that we WILL have a bright future. Whichever path we'll take, we should do nothing but BELIEVE, BELIEVE and BELIEVE.

Which do you think should we change: the administration, the constitution, the laws, or OURSELVES?

Starting Things Right

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

Today is the first day of school, and I have to START things right. Since my blog is about CHANGE, I myself have to change some not-so-nice things in myself.

It’s essential to have a FRESH start; thus, I made a list of changes that I WILL hopefully accomplish. I call it, MY 10 NEW SCHOOL YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS:

1. I will stop from being INSENSITIVE to the Philippines’ problems and special events; thus, I will regularly continue updating JUAN STEP.

2. I will organize a daily time plan in order to attend to all my DUTIES and responsibilities.

3. I will be more ACTIVE in school activities and events.

4. I will not let a school day pass without visiting the BLESSED SACRAMENT.

5. I will always try to do my ordinary duties EXTRAORDINARILY well.

6. I will participate in extra-curricular activities such as seminars which will hone my PERSONALITY and skills.

7. I will weekly engage in sports like Badminton and Basketball to keep my body HEALTHY.

8. I will always watch news in TV, and read news blogs to keep myself updated about the latest happenings in our COUNTRY.

9. I will VOLUNTEER myself to help in big and small things such as making our classroom’s bulletin board.

10. I will make a list of my New School Year’s Resolutions that will serve as my GOALS to accomplish for the whole year.

Since this is my last year in high school, I want to make the MOST out of it. I want to make this the most MEMORABLE year in my high school life. Even though I’ll be more pressured in school, I’m now ready to take new RESPONSIBILITIES. I know I will enjoy, for I will take those as challenges that will make me BETTER and that will make this school year more EXCITING.

GOOD LUCK to me and to all my fellow students!

Ako Mismo Dog Tag Day

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

Yesterday was the INDEPENDENCE DAY of the Philippines. However in our place, I didn't feel the celebration for FREEDOM. It seemed that the holiday was just extending the weekend. I didn't hear a mouth saying "Happy independence day!" Alright, I'll stop the drama. I just hope that each Filipino APPRECIATE the freedom that has been given to us since 1898.

On the other hand, there was a place in Metro Manila where the FILIPINO SPIRIT was roaring out loud! Yes you're right, In Bonifacio Open Field, the AKO MISMO DOG TAG DAY was held, and I can't miss the event. Ako Mismo promotes change in oneself; by making their walls of commitments, anyone can make and share their PLEDGE with other people. It really was a great event. PATRIOTISM and NATIONALISM filled the whole place. Many charities were present such as Caritas and World Vision. There were approximately 40,000 people present.

To enter the place, one should buy an Ako Mismo Dog Tag. It served as the ticket to enter the event. Even though the SUN was way above the sky, people were PATIENT to stand and to wait in lines to buy their dog tags.

If I am not mistaken, there were 6 WALLS OF COMMITMENTS. Some wrote pledges that were SENSIBLE, yet some were non-sense. I didn't let the chance pass. I myself wrote a pledge. I am very sorry for the BAD penmanship. Please bear with me.

To encourage the YOUTH to join the event, they invited live bands to perform such as Kamikazee, Bamboo and Pupil. I hope that those who attended didn't go there just to watch the concert. I hope that they support the NOBLE CAUSE of Ako Mismo and that they will do their PLEDGES.

I am glad to be present on that GREAT day. Events like this will really BOOST the Filipino blood in each of us.

More power to AKO MISMO!

"Yabang Pinoy"

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

Due to the many problems the Philippines are encountering right now, numerous CAMPAIGNS are made to raise the FILIPINO SPIRIT in each of us. One of which is, truly yours, JUAN STEP. The makers of these campaigns are individuals and groups that aim to HELP our dying country because of different circumstances. Another is YABANG PINOY. Yabang Pinoy what?

"“Yabang Pinoy” is a campaign to raise awareness and heighten Filipino people's ethos, dignity and pride by advocating the use of a piece of braided abaca band that aims to make a statement. The abaca band aims to signify a Filipino being truly proud to be one."

- YABANGPINOY.COM

To show that I am PROUD of being a Filipino and to show that I am an advocate of UNITY among the Filipino people, I bought an ABACA BAND and a TEE from The T-shirt Project in Greenhills yesterday.

An Abaca Band is worth P50.00. It's not that itchy to wear especially when you get used to it. It is very light so you may not ungear it if you don't want to.

This shirt costs P395.00. It has a good-looking print in front that says things that represent the Filipino people and the Philippines such as "Halo-halo", "Tabo sa banyo", etc. Its fabric is not thin yet it's not heavy, making it comfy to wear.

At the upper part of its back is a small print of the Yabang Pinoy logo.

The proceeds from the sale go to their projects that are still to come, and to THE CHILDREN'S ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND ACTION FOUNDATION (CEAAF) which aims to raise the awareness of the YOUTH about the rich biodiversity of the Philippines.

There are different designs and colors of t-shirts to choose from. If you want to see them, go to THE T-SHIRT PROJECT STORE or go to YABANG PINOY'S website.

More power to YABANG PINOY!

The Chronicle of Ant Juan

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

For 10 excruciating years, ANT JUAN had been spending his time in participating in rallies to eradicate the regime of KING ANT MIC. Since King Ant Mic became the king, he NEVER spent a cent to maintain the colossal rice field of the Worker Ants. Thus, their fertile land became arid.

As a result of the 10 years of hardships, the CRUSADE of Ant Juan reached its peak. The rallyists rose to more than a hundred thousand and they were enough to OVERTHROW King Ant Mic.

Ecstatic, all the Worker Ants rejoiced and appointed Ant Juan as the NEW KING.

A year passed swiftly.

One radiant morning, KING ANT JUAN rose from his bed because of a very irritating noise. Upon the gates of his palace, he saw:

With a leader comes POWER. With Power comes CORRUPTION. With Corruption come crises. With crises come suspicions. With suspicions comes revolution. With revolution comes the downfall of the leader. With the downfall of the leader comes a new leader. With a new leader comes POWER. With Power comes CORRUPTION.

The CYCLE OF CORRUPTION is pretty tricky.

Would you go with the FLOW? Or would you seek CHANGE?

Pornography Terminators

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

Is it right to say that PORNOGRAPHY is inevitable nowadays? Go to a store that sells newspaper, and you’ll see INDECENT stories and pictures in tabloids. Go to a street where sidewalk vendors dominate, and you’ll see SEX VIDEOS in all its forms. Go to the web and search about porno, and the PORNOGRAPHY WORLD will unfold itself before your eyes.

One thing’s for sure, with TECHNOLOGY comes PORNOGRAPHY. In a seminar I attended few months ago, a representative from Google said that the word “SEX” was the most searched word in their search engine. Just one click, anyone at any age can engage in IMMORALITY. No one can control the situation because the internet is a world where there are NO BOUNDARIES. As Technology widens its dimensions, the problem about Pornography grows tougher and tougher.

The Hayden Kho sex scandal was the most recent issue that has been bugging showbiz and media in the Philippines. Because of its impact, it has reached the SENATE. And now senators are striving to pass a law – the ANTI-CYBER BOSO BILL.

The bill is quite IMPOSSIBLE to be implemented effectively. Why? It’s because the servers of Pornographic sites are scattered all over the GLOBE. Yes they can stop the servers that are based in the Philippines, but how about the servers residing in USA?

The senators a.k.a. PORNOGRAPHY TERMINATORS face a big wall of problems. They should not waste time making such a law that can’t actually be used.

The problem about Pornography should be considered a GLOBAL PROBLEM that needs a GLOBAL SOLUTION.

Boto Mo Ipatrol Mo Debate

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

Last Sunday was the first ever BOTO MO IPATROL MO DEBATE or should I call it the presentation of possible PRESIDENTIAL candidates for the 2010 ELECTION. The first hour was consumed by the one-on-one interviews of the interviewers with the possible candidates, and the second by the main debate between them.

The possible candidates who were present were Gilbert Teodoro, Mar Roxas, Dick Gordon, Chiz Escudero and Ed Panlilio.

These are the result of my observation on the debate. I noticed that Mar Roxas and Hayden Kho might be RELATIVES. Why? It’s because Mar Roxas always had statements such as “ilalaban KO kayo, di aKO susuko, aKO ang bahala sa inyo, aKO, aKO, aKO.” With all due respect, I was just wandering why he always spoke about HIMSELF.

For Chiz Escudero and Ed Panlilio, I think they need more political EXPERIENCE. When you compare their answers with Dick Gordon’s, you will see a NOTABLE difference. The first two lack that WHAT-I'VE-DONE FACTOR unlike Dick Gordon; everyone knows what he had done in Subic and in Tourism; as well as what he has done to Red Cross.

Dick Gordon answered the questions PROFESSIONALLY. He had a nice talk about what was needed for the IMPROVEMENT of this country. He said very sensible statements and explained well his points. I remember one of his statements “BAWAL ANG TAMAD.” Gilbert Teodoro also gave a good fight. Even though he’s pro-administration, he explained his points well.

I am not building up anyone. My OPINIONS are based on my observation on the debate.

Through this kind of debate, the whole nation will see what’s INSIDE every candidate. It’s not like the Tv ads of parties and candidates, yet it’s an INSTRUMENT to open the eyes of each Filipino – young, old, rich, poor, male and female. It will teach all Filipinos to vote the RIGHT leader. It will at least ensure hope for a BRIGHT FUTURE for the Philippines.

More power to BOTO MO IPATROL MO!

Juan Step at a Time

Posted by Mr. JuanStep

In this country filled with problems and controversies, it is hard to answer the questions: How can we attain the CHANGE that we’ve all been waiting for? How can we divulge the TRUTH about corruption in the government? How can we foresee who’s APATHETIC among the political candidates and who’s not? How can we awaken the sleeping minds of the YOUTH? How can we reclaim the DIGNITY that was driven away from us?

So many questions, so many ambiguous answers, yet the DECISION to make the move is left among us. Change is so difficult to attain especially if we just WAIT for others to do the action. Change starts within oneself, within one’s mind and within one’s heart. It takes place gradually – in us, in our family, in our community and in the whole country. JUAN STEP at a time, with proper rhythm and rhyme, we will attain CHANGE in our MOTHERLAND.
